SHOOTING FATALITIES.

PAPATOETOE RESIDENT

RETIRED ARMY ENGINEER

Discovered by his neighbours about 10.30 yesterday morning suffering from a gunshot wound in the head, Mr. Hugh Porteous Cameron, aged 53, of Roscommon Road, Papatoetoe, was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where he died at three o'clock in the afternoon.

A shot was heard by the neighbours, and Mr. Cameron was found in a workshop at the back of the house, lying injured with a shotgun nearby. Dr. A. B. Jameson was called, and the injured man was removed to the hospital by the St. John Ambulance.

Mr. Cameron, who was a retired Army engineer, and formerly lived in Burma, had a distinguished war record. He came from India about two years ago, since when he had been engaged in farming. It is understood ho had been in indifferent health for some time past. He is survived by his wife and four children.

FOUND DEAD ON LAWN.

[BY' TELEGRAPH.—OWN COIUIESPOXDKNT.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday.

A sad discovery was made by a Waitara milkman when he made his call at the residence of Mr. Henry Edward Brabant, at about 9.15 this morning. He found Mr. Brabant lying dead on tho lawn with a revolver at his feet.

Mr. Brabant was.32 years of age and leaves a widow and one child. His wife was visiting Auckland at the timo and \lr. Brabant had just returned from tho Wanganui Easter tennis tournament. He had been in the employ of tho Postal Department for many years and served in (ho Waifara Post. Office. Ho saw service in (he war and was wounded on Iho Sonmio where he lost his left forearm.

An inquest was opened this afternoon and was adjourned sine die after evidence of identification had been taken.
