KETCH RUNS ASHORE.

WAITARA RIVER MOUTH.

VESSEL LADEN WITH COAL.

[BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday.

The auxiliary ketch Aratapu, of 125 tout, went ashore at the entrance to the Waitara River yesterday and is still fast, apparently oil a mud bottom. On Friday night the vessel, en route from Westport for Waitara with coal, called at New Plymouth to shelter from tho blustering weather. On Saturday she attempted to.resume her voyage and went aground while endeavouring to enter the river port. With the high tides she is rocking badly, but at present not seriously. It is feared the vessel will be damaged while she remains in her present position, although it is possible she may not be refloated until the next spring tide, attempts so far having been unsuccessful.
