RESULT OF THE ELECTION.

TRADE " TICKET " RETURNED.

ONLY ONE NEW MEMBER

LITTLE INTEREST DISPLAYED. As a result of the election held yesterday there is only ono new member on tho Auckland Licensing 'Committee for the next three years. This is Mr. W. Wallace. The remaining four members wero on tho old committee and offered themselves for re-election. 'I lie five successful candidates were all recommended by a ticket representing trade interests Following are tho results of the voting:— THE NEW COMMITTEE. W. L. Casey ... 2040 W. J'hcre was a total of 71 informal votes. One postal vote and a small number of absentee votes have yet to bo counted, but these cannot affect tho result. The Auckland licensing district comprises tho electorates of Auckland Central, Auckland East and Auckland West. Those whose names are on the Parliamentary rolls of these electorates were entitled to vote, but voting was vciy light. Approximately only 2500 people took an active interest in tho election. All hotels in tho district wero closed after noon yesterday. Mr. Wallaco replaces Air. J. Trevithick on tho new committee. Iho latter was the only member of tho old body who did not seek re-election. No official ticket was put forward by tho Auckland branch of the New Zealand Alliance, this body contenting itself with urging electors not to vote for Messrs. Leydon, Lethaby and Grace, who were members of the committee which granted a licence for tho Ambassadors Hotel. However, these three candidates wero all successful. Although Mr. Casey topped tho poll with a majority of 101 voles over Mr. Wallaco he led at only four booths, while Mr. Wallace was at the top of tho poll at seven. Sl.'. Grace led at the remaining booth.
