While engaged in a motor-cycle race of five miles on Ohape beach yesterday, two of the competitors, James Whittle and Hubert Drube, were injured as & result of their machines skidding on the loose Kind. There were about a dozen competitors in the race. Whittle's shoulder was dislocated, and Drube's collarbone wa;s broken. They were both taken to th« Whakatane Hospital for treatment.

HOBSON STREET ACCIDENT.

Two men in a motor-cycle and liidecar were injured in a. collision with a tramway centre-pole in Hobson Street about one o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. A. Mason, of 202, Queen Street, Onehunga, and Mr. H J. Wise, of 17, Montague Street, Newton, both stonemasons, had been attending a meeting at the Trades Hall, and were riding up Hobson Street a little above the intersection of Cook Street., when the attention of the driver, Mr. Mason, was distracted by someone calling to him from the footpath. The cycle swung round, meeting the centre-pole in the middle, the cycle on ono side and the side-car on the other.

The men were rendered unconscious, one recovering before being admitted to the hospital. Mr. Mason received 4 scalp wound, and Mr. Wise is suffering from slight concession. Last, evening their condition was regarded as fairly serious. The front wheel of the cycle was badly buckled, and other minor damage done to the machine.
