RETIRING MINISTER'S TRIBUTE
Upon relinquishing tho portfolio of railways, the Right Hon. J. G. Coatcs forwarded tho following letter to the general manager of railways, Mr. H. 11. Stirling:—"l am giving up tho portfolio of Minister of Railways,'which I havo hold continuously sinco 1923. In doing so I should liko to take the opportunity of expressing to you, who have been so long and intimately connected with tho New Zealand railways, my own personal thanks for your untiring efforts, and, through you, to every member of the staff of the department, my appreciation of their loyal servicos to tho country at largo. More than ono tribute has been paid lately to tho zealous and efficient manner in which all ranks of tho railway service carry out their duties, and in add ing my own tribute to the others, I wish to express my conviction that the Railway Department will always continuo to maintain its high traditions."
