OPENING OF NEW PAVILION. The Ngatarinija Club, at Stanley Bay. opened its new pavilion on Saturday in perfect weather and before a large attendance. The pavilion, a two-storey structure, contains a larg'j anrl comfortable assembly room and balcony on the npper floor and a kitchenette and men's and ladies' dressing rooms on the lower floor. It was designed by Mr. Henry F. Robinson, honorary architect of the club, who, during the afternoon. was presented with a case of pipers by Mr. C. M. Browne, the president. Snecial mention was made by the president and the Mayor of the untirin? zenl and enthusiasm displayed by Mr. L. S. Bates, secretary of the club, to whose efforts the erection of the pavilion and the successful organisation of the club during its twelve months' existence were mainly due. Mr. Hickson, president of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, was also present, and r>dded his congratulations to the club, wishing it a successful future. GALA AT HAMILTON LAKE. FUNDS FOR NEW COURTS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON. Sunday. A gala was held at the Hamilton Lake yesterday afternoon by the Hamilton Suburban Lawn Tennis Association for the purpose of raising funds with which to acquire new tennis courts. There was 'a large attendance. Fine weather was enjoyed until after three o'clock, when heavy rain fell and somewhat spoiled the pleasure of those present. Good business was done at various stalls, and an interesting programme of races for children was carried out. MATCH AT OTAHUHU. A team representing the St. George's Club, Papatoetoe, met a team from the pub- | lie school, Otahuhu, on the school courts on Saturday. The Otahuhu school won by 8 sets to 5, the Papatoetoe club winning one of the men's singles matches, two men's doubles and two ladies' doubles. IMPROVEMENTS AT BIRKENHEAD. Improvements carried out by the Birkenhead and Northcote Tennis Club and the Waitemata Bowling Club have taxed the financial resources of these bodies, and steps are being taken with a view to _ raising funds to extinguish existing liabilities. A combined meeting of the two chibs appointed & joint executive to further the objective, as follows:—Messrs. R. A. Johnston. J. W. Lethbridge, E. J. Fraser, and A. C. Wells, representing the bowlers, and Messrs. A. Taylor, H W. Tyer, P. C. Minns and T. V. Fitzpatrick, representing the tennis club. Several sub-committees were also appointed in connection with a proposed fete in March.
