THE 'WAITEMATA CLUB. EIGHT CREWS IN COMPETITION. The Waitemata Boating Club rowed trial fours on Saturday afternoon for trophies donated by Mr. T. Impey. Again tho entries totalled eight crews, and tho result was four well-contested races. In spito of tho fresh southerly wind a good courso was found across Hobson Bay to tho eastern tido deflector. The water conditions were very rough for over half the journey, but tlio final stretch left nothing to be desired. As usual starting was by mutual consent. The first heat crews wero: J. Stevenson (1), D. Gallagher (3), J. Hunn (2). H. W. Allingham (1); W. Lowe (4), C. Belton (3), D. Gladding (2), J. Howard (1): L. Brooker (4). G. Barker (3). C. C. Cairns (2). J. Hammond (1). After the first 100 yards Brooker's crew took tho lead. Crossing the bay Brooker drew out, and by the time the sheltered water was reached his crew, swinging out nicely, had a comfortable lead. The other crews offered no troublo. and Brooker won easily with Stevenson second. Tho Becond heat crews were: W Steven son (4). E. Bishop (3). .E. Evans (2), B. Hunt (1), C. Fearon (4). W. Johnstone (3). H. Kenrick (2). D. Young (1). Stevenson took the lead, but at the half-distance Fearon closed up. Off the Parnell Baths Stevenson again forged ahead, and won by a length and a-half. The third heat crews were: T. Iveegan (4). A. Macltay (3). J. Lawrence (2). T. Con way (1): R. Cruickshank (4). J. Russell (3) D. MeGehan (2). W Jones (1); T: Impey (4). R. Smith (3), J. O'Hanlan (2). W. Edwards (1). The crews raced on even terms until nearing tho half-distance. Impey then took the lead, with Cruickßhank second. In the closing stages Cruickshank challenged strongly, but Impe7 v/as not be denied and won bv three-quarters of a length. 111 the final the crews wero stroked bv W. Stevenson. L. Brooker and T. Impev. Tliey raced on even terms until off Point Resolution. where they all collided. Brooker's crew stopping. At this stage Stevenson got the lead from Impey. When the calm water was reached tho crews spurted, and 11 great tustde ensued between Stevenson and Impey. Close 011 the line Impey came to a great pace, but Stevenson lmd sufficient in hand to win bv half a length
J AUCKLAND CLUB. KOIIN CHALLENGE SHIELD The Auckland Rowing Club held a race in tho Kohn Challenge Shield series over the course from Orakei- to the tide deflector. The crews were: H. Duck (4). R Leabourn (3). It. Wood (2). G. Hirtzoll (1): A. Cootes 14). G, Bartley (3). C. Harrop (2). A Hirtzell (1). From a splendid start tho crews raced on even terms until off the reef. Cootes then forged ahead, but over the last 100 vards Duck challenged, and in an exrit ing finish Cootes won by half a length. The winners will meet Jonson's crew in tho next race early in tho new year, RACE AT WHANGAUEI. f IJV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI. Sunday. A race yesterday for the Whangarei Rowing Club's baton resulted in C, Dent's crew defeating the holders. H. Hammond's crew, by four lengths.
