WELLINGTON GOSSIP.
FORM AT WOODVILLE.
REAPPEARANCE OF KICK-OFF.
[BV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
WELLINGTON. Saturday F, Davis will have Gaecony, Doree. Great Charter, Clever and Symballo racint? at Awapuni. Gascony will be raced in the Palmerßton North Stakes, for which he has escaped a penalty He should strip in good order. Doree looks a likely stakeearner in the holidays Clever is seasoned and that will stand to her. Groat Charter may need a race and the two-year-old Symballo is' inexperienced.
One of the features of the Woodville meeting was the reappearance of Kick Off after an absence of practically six years from the turf. Kick Of! looked very bright, if a trifle burly, when stripped on Thursday, but raced with plenty of dash. Although he is a ten-year-old it is quite possible he will be a very useful stake-earner Horses of his Quality are hard to get. Kinross and Toxeuma, who raced at Woodville, have been discussed in some quarters as likely Great Northern Derby horeeß. but their Woodville efforts left something to be desired On Woodville form they can be dismissed.
Statuary is a small filly by Leighton from Statuette She is a resolute little filly and stayed on really well with the much more experienced Clever at Woodville Statuary may not prove high class, but ehe is going to bo a solid galloper if this showing is any criterion.
Zareno, who carried W. H. Dwyer'a colours into second place on the opening day. is also a promising two-year-old She had a little apprentice on her and although tho lad did well, ho and his mount were unlucky. She should certainly pay hor way. Ben Hur is rather plain, but solid, and tho races he had this week should smarten him up. He was finishing on in each of them.
Miss Ransom is still as good a galloper as ever. Her turn is not far away. Veronese was beaten eaoh day at Woodville, but it should not be long before she leads a field home again. Baskier registered a fine performance at Woodville ofter being left standing. He should see a short price when produced next time. There are few better bred maiden hacks about than Curtsey, by Limond from Salute. She should soon win her way into good company Pegeen Oge should be hard to beat in a maidon plate during the holidays.
CANTERBURY NOTES.
HORSES FOR ELLERSLIE.
GOOD PERFORMANCES EXPECTED. [BY TELEGEAFIT. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. First Sight has been causing F. D. Jones Bome anxiety during the last week or two, having shown signß of soreness more than once since he raced at Bouth Canterbury. However, the trouble doeß not appear to be serious and the Gay Lad gelding is working along in good style. He will not fulfil his Auckland engagements, but if he continues to train on all right F. D. Jones will take him to the Uanawatu and Marton meetings with Toawai and Bolcaire as mates. This looks a very useful team. P. V. Mason will leave on Tuesday night for Auckland with Phillippic, Golden Armour and the two-year-old Honour, who will represent Mi. G. D. Greenwood at tho Auckland meeting. Thoy have got through a lot of useful work lately and should be ready to Bhow their beet form at the Ellerslio carnival. Each of the trio, in fact, looks a likely winner on tho trip, as they are all more forward than when they raced at Riccarton last month. F. Christmas will make tho trip to Auckland with Red Heckle and Zouxis. They have been given plenty of useful work lately and they are in excellent fettle. T. H. Gillett will leave early next week for Auckland with Count Cavour, Amor and Wharncliffe. They have done exceptionally well lately and look a useful team for the Ellerslio meeting. Count Cavour will strip a much improved horse compared with the form ho has shown in earlier racea this season. Amor is better now than at any stage of his career. Wharncliffe has como on and should play his part well in hurdle races on the trip. J. McCombe has Crown Area, Moorgas and Court Jester looking in good health and will make the trip North early next week. Crown' Area and Moorgas have done well since they came to Riccarton. while Court Jester has started to give evidence of developing into a usohu horse. It is probable that D. Campbell will race Battle Colours on the Southern circuit during the holiday season. , W Stone is keeping Silver Paper and Aspiring at useful tasks without setting them anything particularly etrenucms. They look well in view of Manawatu engagements. THE STRATFORD RACES. WEIGHTS FOR FIRST DAY. [u¥ TELEGRAPH. —FIUCBS ASSOCIATION.J WELLINGTON, Sunday.
