CORNWALL PARK SCHOOL.
NEW INFANT DEPARTMENT. A successful carnival in connection witH the opening of the new infant department) was held at the Cornwall Park School on Saturday afternoon. Mr. H. R. Jenkins, M.P., who opened the new building, and Mrs. Jenkins, were welcomed by Mr. G* E. Smerdon, chairman of the CornwaU Park School Committee, and of Newmarket, and Mrs. Jenkins was presented with a bouquet by Mrs. SmerdoiL Tho headmaster, Mr. W. Birss, gave- % brief account of the growth of the school since its opening in 1921, and mentioned the excellent conditions under which thq pupils worked. An engraved key was presented to Mr., Jenkins, who declared the new school open. The building is in wood, and coht sists of three classrooms and a well-ap* pointed teachera' room. A feature of the design is the provision to secure the most beneficial conditions for the scholars. On both sides are rows of large windows, which practically convert the building into an open-air schbol in suitable weather. Nearly 200 children can be accommodated.
The carnival, which was in aid of th<» school improvements fund, included manjj novel items. Races for the children and adults were held, exhibitions of drill and dancing were given by the pupils, and a! fancy-dress parade included many clever costumes. A tug-of-war for the Smerdon Challenge Cup was the most exciting event of the day. There were numerous stalls.
