PUPILS' RECITAL.

PARISH HALL, DEVONPORT.

An appreciative audience filled the parish hall at Devonport on Saturday evening for the pianoforte and elocutionary recital given by Miss Ericu Blamires and pupils, assisted by Miss Alma McGruer and Mr. F. W. Barker. The stage was artistically decorated for the occasion. The first part of the programme took the form of a children's entertainment given by the younger pupils. The scene was a party, with little Thel Saunders as hostess and Enid Scott as tho maid. After a pleasant little interlude, the guests suggested a concert, and many varied and delightful items were given by tho following children:—Lorna Frith, Gwenyth Hogan, Irene Graham, Eileen Knox, Eva Neil, Margaret Parkinson, Edna Rainey, Thel Saunders, Elsie Timmins, Margaret Vause, Alice Walhvork, Berti and Sydney Bentley, Carrick Blackie, ,Alan Farquharson and Wilson Rainey. Tho pianoforte items were of a high, standard, and some of the young children showed much promise. The elocutionary items were all interesting and appreciated. After tho interval, a musical monologue was given by Thel Saunders, a recitation by Edna Rainey, a clever little sketch by Margaret Parkinson, and a costume duologue by Eva Noil and Thel Saunders. Pianoforte items, including works by ColeridgeTaylor, Bach, Rachmaninoff and Edgar Barratt, were given by Phyllis Hogan, Joyce Lee and Athol Jonas. Miss Erica Blamires gave a humorous sketch which was much enjoyed, and also played some works of Chopin. The vocal items of Miss McGruer and elocutionary selections of Mr. F. W. Barker were enthusiastically received. Tho performers received beautiful bouquets. The Thespian Orchestra gave selections before tho concert and during the interval.
