CROQUET AFTERNOON.
A very enjoyable afternoon given to Mrs. A. A. Chittenden, who is leaving To Awamutu shortly to live in Auckland, took place on the Victoria Park lawns, Te Awamutu, last week, when tho croquet club took tho opportunity to farewell a valued member. Progressive croquet was played, the winners being Mrs. S. Dowds, Mrs. Layne and Mrs. S. J. Nobes. The club's president, Mrs. W. Jeffery, presented Mrs. Chittenden with an English brass fruit stand, and referred to tho members' regret at losing such a keen and enthusiastic player and helper at all times. Mrs. Chittenden expressed her deep appreciation of the gift and tho sentiments accompanying it, and added that she regretted exceedingly giving up a membership that sho had thoroughly enjoyed. Included among those present were Mesdames Chittenden, Jeffery, Dowds, J. O'Sullivan', A. J. McGovern, Layne, A. A. Reose, S. S. Preston, Battsou, G. Teasdale, Bevin, A. C. Cruickshank, Bond, Noonan, Nobes, H. Burchell, W. H. Davis, Goodall, M. McNair, Downes, Jourdain, McArthur, H. Y. Collins and 11. C Ilainey.
