MINOR DAMAGE IN CITY. FOUR CALLS TO . BRIGADE.' Four minor fires were attended by the City Fire Brigade yesterday. Tho first was at 9 a.m. at tho residence of Mrs. M. Neilsen, 21, Prospect Terrace. Ponsonby, where an overturned pan of fat caused a fire, which was extinguished beforo any damage was done. About 3.20 p.m. an overheated boiler set firo to the premises of Mr. W. E. D'Audnoy, cabinetmaker, in Sheehan Street, Ponsonby. Minor damage to the ceiling resulted. Two scrub fires wero quelled at six o'clock last evenig, one at Myers Park and the other on a vacant section in Parnell Road.

A spectacular outbreak of fire occurred at 1.30 a.m. to-day in an old building in Brown Street, and caused its complete destruction. Tjio building was used by Messrs. A. and G. Prico for the storage of crude oil and other gear, and it housed several horse waggons. Tho outbreak was first noticed by Mr. A. Hayward and Constable White, who summoned tho volunteer firo brigade, which battled with the fire until daybreak. Tho flamos shot to u great height and caused intense heat, which blistered a verandah across tho street and cracked the plate-glass windows of Mr. T. Dunbar's tobacconist shop and other windows in tho Lady Bowen Hotel. Tho premises and portion of tho contents were insured for £4BO in the Victoria Offico. Tho building was a relic of tho days of tho gold rush, when it was known as tho Scotia Hotel and later as Hawke's stables. SPIRIT STOVE EXPLODES. STOCK WORTH £250 LOST. A spirit slovo exploded this afternoon and caused a firo which destroyed £250 worth ot floor-polishing apparatus in the "Litcwurk" Floor l'ulislmig Company's premises in Cnshcl Street. Tho spirit flamed up and ignited the cot ton-wast o in which some goods wero packed. Much material was damaged and destroyed before tho brigado extinguished tho fire with chemicals.
