"Our arrival in New Zealand marks tho second stage of what might bo called our (lag-flying tour," said Mr. 11. .A. Sabelli, manager 01 the English tennis team, com prising 11. W. Austin, I. G. Collins, E. Higgs and J. C. Gregory, which arrived at Wellington by the Makura from San Francisco this morning. Tho ten [!• came through Canada, and after a short stay in the Dominions will spend some months in Australia, and return to England via South Africa. The Englishmen will go to Christchurch to-morrow night and play tliere on Friday and SaiuiUay. Mr. Sabelli said tho standard of tennis in England, particularly among women, was very high. SOUTH ISLAND MATCHES. NEW ZEALAND PLAYERS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CiiiiISTCHUKCH, Monday. While G. Ollivicr and C. Angus are certain to bo included in the South Island tennis team to meet tho Englishmen at Wilding Park next Friday and Saturday, tho remaining, two players have to bo chosen from 11. A. Guy (Otago), D. Glanvillo (Canterbury), D. G. Johuston (South Canterbury), and T. W. Patterson (Canterbury). At Wilding Park this morning Johnston had a practice match with Angas, but did not win a singlo game in two sets.
