HOSPITAL FOR PAEROA.
CRITICISM OF MINISTER.
} COMPLAiNT FROM THAMES.
£BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES, Monday.
"My only hope is that the Minister .will make available tho annual balancesheet," said Mr- J- W. Dauby, deputychairman of the Thames Hospital Board, this evening in commenting on the decision of tho Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, in connection with tho issue of nn Order-in-Council directing the DirectorGeneral of Health to build, equip, maintain and staff a hospital at Pacroa and charge the cost to tho Thames Board. Tho board has declined to build the hospital on the ground that it would impose an unnecessarily severe rating burden on tho settlers of its district.
"In instructing tho issuo of an Order-in-Council authorising the building of the Faeroa Hospital," said Mr. Danby, "tho Minister has exercised a power that, in this instance, has been inexcusably misused. The Minister must know that up to tho present no evidence has been adduced to show that a hospital at I'acroa is warranted. "The people of the district unquestionably arc against this unnecessary expenditure, as,revealed by tho protests of a majority of tho contributing local bodies in the board's district."
