(Received October 22. 11.44 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Oct. 2:2. The cricket, match, Australia v. tlm Rest, was concluded to-day, Australia won by an innings and 43 runs. When stumps were drawn on Saturday the Rest h;i«J dismissed Australia for 398 runs, compared with their own first innings score of 111, and had lost no wickets for 3 runs in their second venture. On the resumption of play to-day the weather was dull and threatening. Only eight overs had been bowled when light rain caused an adjournment until after luncheon. The wicket was covered. Jackson batted stylishly and Karris splendidly. The latter scored 51 in 85 minutes. He hit four fours. Kelleway made 26 in an equal number of minutes. He scored a six with a fine drive off Grimmett. At one stage five wickets had fallen for 17 runs, Oxenham in two overs taking four wickets for two runs. lie bowled a fine length and with a deceptive flight. The wicket was slow but good. Nicholls gave a vigorous display for 47. He made 30 in 12 minutes, his full time at the wickets being 29 minutes. He hit one six arid five fours in a great display of batting.
