HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

The following. weather forecast for 'lB hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— Mainly fair 10 fine weather is indicated temporarily, but with increasing cloudiness and rain following shortly, particularly in extreme northern areas, and easL coast districts. Westerly to south-wes-terly winds, moderate to strong,' decreasing, and veering by north to east in districts northward of New Plymouth and Napier, and increasing strong to gale. Southerly to south-easterly winds, moderate to strong, ruling in places southward of New Plymouth. Mainly moderate seas on the west coast of both islands, but increasing shortly on tho cast coast of the North Island, particularly in tho area between East Capo and Capo Maria. The recent Antarctic disturbance has now passed eastward to llio Pacific. Tropical influences of a cyclonic character are developing north-westward of the Dominion, and indications point to a change from the present westerly type of weather to tho easterly conditions, with attendant rain and stoimy weather, tho northern portion of the North Island being particularly affected. Expect milder temperatures generally. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 30.001n. Midnight, Thursday .. .. 30.15 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—An anti-cyclone has passca between New Zealand and Norfolk Island. A depression of moderate intensity is crossing the Tasman Sea. Indications arc for strong north-west to westerly winds, reaching gale force in exposed positions in and south of Cook Strait, later backing to south-west. Seas rough south of Capo Egniont and in Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere moderato. Moderate to strong north-west winds, later backing to south-westerly, and moderate to rather rough seas in tho eastern Tasman Sea. Scattered showers in western districts, but elsewhere mainly fine.
