Mrs. Sheffield, of Sylvan Glade, Whangnparaoa, gave a twenty.first birthday evening for her daughter, Miss Molly Sheffield, on Tuesday. The ballroom had been effectively decorated and with dancing and cards for. non-dancers a very pleasant time was spent. A birthday cake was a feature of the supper table and ■was cut by Miss Sheffield, who received many good wishes for the future. A cabaret evening arranged by lho Mercury Bay Musical Club was held recently and proved a very enjoyable occasion. The decorative scheme of the hall had been carried out with multi-coloured streamers, foliage, and a model of the Southern Cross, which all made a gay background for Ihe dancers. These were given brighily-coloured paper hats, ruffles and wands'with streamers and balloons attached, and during tho evening confetti, balloons and' brightly-coloured butterflies ■were released from the monoplane. Mrs. Italph and her orchestra played the latest dance music. At tho fortnightly meeting of tho Auckland women's branch of the New Zealand Labour Party held at tho Trades' Hall recently with Mrs. Soljak presiding, it -was decided to secure suitable premises for use as a social room. A committee consisting of Mesdames Ivemp, Cassie and Cruickshank was set up for that purpose. Mrs. Soljak announced that in conjunction with Mrs. Gibson she had collected several exhibits of children' 3 work for a Peace Exhibition to bo held in Vancouver during Armistice Week under the auspices of th 13 Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. Matters in connection with the next Labour Women's Conference were discussed, and arrangements for the Paddy's Market, to be held on October 26, finalised. At the annual Presbyterian bazaar held fri Dyer's Hall, Ohakune, this week there ■was a good display on the varous stalls. The Lades' Guild prior to the bazaar had been working strenuously to mako it a Success, and their efforts were well rewarded. A great many people attended both in the afternoon and evening, and at the close of the function all the stalls were depleted of their goods. The stall holders were:—Flower stall. Girls' Bible Class; plain sewing stall, Mesdames C. Home, Olsen, and Miss McDougall; fancy stall, Mesdames O'Shaughnessy and Devlin; produce, Mrs. Iliskins; sweet stall, Mesdames McGregor, L. North, Misses Dinwoodie and Home; Christmas tree, Mrs. Dinwoodie, Misses Jean McGregor and Jean Olsen; tea rooms, Mrs. Thomas. Tho Bazaar Committee, with Mrs. Hiskins as secretary, proved .excellent organisers.
