CITY BY-ELECTION.

PROBABLY ON NOVEMBER 7. MR. BLOODWORTH MAY STAND. It is probable a by-election to fill the vacancy on the City Council caused by the death of Mr. F. W. H. Brinsdcn will be held on Wednesday, November 7. The position is required to be filled not less than 25 and not more than 28 clear days from tho occurrence of the vacancy, and three weeks' notice of tho poll has to bo given. Thus it will not be possible to take tho poll concurrently with the vote on the transport board issue on October 31. In any case, tho latter poll is restricted to ratepayers, whereas tho voting on the council by-election will be on the district electors' roll. Tho supplementary roll will close on Octbber 24, two weeks before the poll. Mr. T. Blood worth, who was a member of tho council until last year, when lie contested the Mayoralty, said yesterday lie was "a very probable candidate."-
