WAIKATO WINTER SHOW

CONTINUED POPULARITY. CROWDS ARRIVE BY TRAIN. SPECIAL TO IPS FOR FARMERS. [Br TELEGRAPH.—-OWN CORRESPONDENT. J HAMILTON. Friday. The co-operation of the Railway Department. with the Waikato Winter Show Association in arranging suitablo 4rain services from all parts of the Aucklaud Province has been an important factor in the success of this years show. The special trains from Thames and 1e Aroha to-day carried 7-50 and 500 passengers respectively, while all the ordinary trains arriving in Hamilton were crowded. Perfect weather prevailed to-day and the attendance at the show was excellent. A large number of j children from the Hamilton schools visited the show yesterday - and as they were admitted free the attendance was much larger than the gate takings would indicate. The sum of £386-15s was taken at the doors, compared with £485 for the third day of last year's fixture. Children from schools on the Thames and Waihi lines were admitted to the show free to-day and before their departure were given refreshments by the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited. Visitors from a distance have expressed gratitude for the arrangements made for their entertainment and opportunity was given visiting farmers- to visit the Ruakunv State Farm. About 300 made the trip and were thoroughly interested in all that was to be seen. A largo number of Friesian breeders were to-day conveyed to farms at Tamahere and Morrinsville, where herds of Friesian stock were inspected. About farmers were taken by private car owners to Arapuni to-day and thoroughly enjoyed the outing. A smoke concert was tendered to Show Association officials, factory man agers and visitors last evening, the attendance being nearly 200. An excellent programme and supper were arranged, by the Hamilton Orphans' Club. Those who responded to the toast of the visitors, which was proposed by the Hon. J. A. Young, paid a tribute to the show officials f'oi the treatment the visitors had received. The consideration and courtesy shown by the Railway Department was also mentioned. One visitor stated that the Waikato Winter Show Association set a great example to other show organisations in the Dominion. The show will continue until next Tuesday.
