WOMEN'S OPEN GOLF TITLE. PLAY AT HUNSTANTON.

Australian and N.Z. Progs Association. (Received May 15. 6.5 p.m.) LONDON. May 14.

In the first round of the British women's open golf championship at Hunstanton, Norfolk, Miss Glenna Collett, the American woman golf champion, was drawn to play Mademoiselle Thion do la Charnne, the holder of the title. It was a dingdong and hard-fought match. The players were all square at the turn. Miss Collett then forged ahead and won by 3 up and 2 to play. Miss Molly Gourlay defeated the Melbourne player, Miss Cecily Lascelles, by 6 and 5.

Miss Glenna Collett won the American women's open title :n 1922, 1925 and 1927, and the Canadian title in 1923 and 1924. In 1925, at Troon, she was defeated in the third round by Miss Wethered. who eventually won the title. Mademoiselle de la Chaume, of Paris, won the British open girls' championship in 1924, the French (close) championship in 1925, and was runner-up for the open championship, and won the British title last year. SYDNEY, May 16An announcement was published to-day to the eSect that the New Zealand Boxing Council would welcome a visit from an Australian team, but not from a mere State team, as suggested from Queensland. The secretary of the Australian Boxing Union, Mr. F. S. Underwood, said no such tour could be arranged except through the union. Therefore the Queensland proposal was unauthorised. Mr. Underwood, however, said he was convinced that a tour by an Australian team would do immense good, and if New Zealand were to send an invitation it would receive favourable consideration. Leicestershire in the first innings made 234 (Shipman 59, Berry 68. Ashdown four for 9), ar.d Kent in the second innings made 183 for five (Woolley 91).

Glamorganshire in the first innings made 282 (Hills 101. Townsend six for 72), and Derbyshire in the second innings made 220 for six (Storen 51).

Warwickshire in the first innings made 205 (Bates 56, Wyatt 66 not out. Iddon eight for 50), and Lancashire in the second innings 135 for two (Hallows 56 not out).

Sussex in the first, innings made 173 (Grimston 61. Sinfield four for 56), and followed on, and made 5 for one wicket against Gloucestershire. Nottinghamshire in the first innings made 333 (White six for 90), and Somersetshire made 159 (Case 51 not out. Larwood four for 40), and followed on and made 88 for two wickets.
