APPRENTICESHIP ORDER.
THE FURNITURE TRADE.
INTERPRETATION BY COURT.
.An application by the Auckland Furnituro Trade Apprenticeship Committee for interpretation of a clause of the apprenticeship order for the Northern district has been vonsidered by the Arbitration Court. In a reserved judgment, delivered b'y Mr. Justice Frazer, the Court holds it is not competent for an employer to indenture an apprentice to two branches of the trade in the case of the quota being full or otherwise. " Each branch of the trade stands by itself," states His Honor. "This does not conflict with the general rule that an apprentice, in learning his ov;n special Uanch of the trade, may be taught such operations of another branch or branches as may be necessary for his proper instruction in his own branch, but not further or otherwise. Such circumstances do not constitute an apprenticeship to the other branch or branches."
