LONGITUDE OF DOMINION.
THE LATEST CALCULATIONS. [BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday.
The Dominion observatory at Kelburn lias published results of observations made during October and November of last, vcar as part of a world-wide scheme of determination of longitude. For the first time in such work radio time signals direct from Greenwich were used among other means, and probably a greater degree of accuracy was attained than ever before. The result shows that New Zealand is 269 ft. further westward than was previously thought, <1 result which shows bow extraordinarily accurate were previous calculations mado with loss elaborate scientific aids.
If similar experiments are conducted 10 years hence it will be known for certain whether there is some foundation in fact for the theory of a continental drift.
