FOOTBALL ACCIDENTS.

SEVERAL PLAYERS HURT.

HEAD INJURIES SUSTAINED.

BUSY TIME FOR AMBULANCE.

Several players were injured in football matches held on Saturday afternoon and the St. John Ambulance was kept busy attending to injuries. Ft. Rayson, of Howe Street, Newton, who sustained concussion while playing at New Lynn for a Grafton team in the League competitions, was taken to the hospital in a serious condition. His condition had improved yesterday. Playing Rugby football for Manukau in a game at Onehunga, J. G. Speight, of Captain Springs Road, To Papapa, also received concussion. On removal to the hospital his condition was found to be fairly seriou3. He has now shown improvement and yesterday his condition was satisfactory.

Concussion was also sustained by a member of the Athletic Football Club, E. Paltridge, in a game at the Domain. His condition is considered by the hospital authorities to be satisfactory.

While playing for the College Rifles second grade team at the Show Grcunds, A. G. Vear received injuries to the head and was thought to have sustained a fracture of the skull. After undergoing an X-ray examination at the hospital he was able to proceed to his home in Campbell Road, Onehunga. Playing Rugby for the' Hauraki team at the Domain, H. Brunton received a severe cut over the left eye and a cut on his creek, necessitating the insertion of a number of stitches at the hospital. The official opening of the Rugby football season at Waiuku on Saturday was marked by two accidents. D. Gleeson, halfback for the Waipipi team, had his collarbone broken in a collision with another player when playing in the match between Aka Aka and Waipipi. In the other match, Waiuku v. Otaua, the fullback for the Otaua team, G. Duncan, had two ribs broken. He played throughout the match. .

During a senior Rugby match at Morrinsville, between Terriers and United, one of tho players, G. Marshall, had his shoulder dislocated.

While playing in a match at Raetihi, between United and Athletic Juniors, on the Show Ground, a player named J. Garvin had his leg broken.
