WINTRY WEEK-END.

HEAVY RAINFALL YESTERDAY. HIGHER LEVEL IN RESERVOIRS. The weather at Auckland during the week-end was very wet. On Saturday a boisterous wind was blowing fiom the west and there were occasional heavy rain showers. Yesterday morning the Viincl moderated to a light breeze and changed to the north-east. Toward midday heavy rain set in and it fell continuously until evening, when the wind, which bad fieshencd and changed to the south-east, was blowing at times with gale force. Conditions continued threatening until a Jate hour. The rainfall for the 48 hours ended at midnight was 1.58 in., which brings the total rainfall for Llie mouth to date to 2.40 in.

The rain was heavy in the Waitakere Ranges and by 3 p.m. the level of both Waitakere and Nihotupu reservoirs had gained a foot. A considerable gain in the total storage of water is expected, although much more rain will bo nscded to fill tho reservoirs.

May, Juno and July are the three wettest months of the year, the average rainfall being:—May. 4.55 in.; June. 4.72i0.: July, 4.91 in. Tho wettest May in 42 years was experienced in 1924, when 10.63 in. fell. Tho driest May was in 1901, when the rainfall for the month was only .85in.

The stormy conditions at the week-end wero accompanied by a considerable fall iotbe barometer. At midnight on Friday the reading was 29.95 m., and last night it was 29.25 in., tho fall being more pronounced after midday yesterday.
