NEW LYNN SCHOOL.

EXTRA CLASSROOMS OPENED. TRIBUTE TO HEADMASTER. A detached building containing two classrooms was officially opened at the New Lynn School on Saturday afternoon by Mr. R. Hoe, a member of the Auckland Education Board. The opportunity was taken to present Mr. H. J. S. Ellis, the retiring headmaster, with a gold watch. The presentation was made on behalf of residents of the district by Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P. for Eden. Mr. Mason said he regarded as the most striking tribute to Mr. Ellis the remarkable zeal and enthusiasm for education that ho had always found in the district. The scholars were keen in their work and the parents were always eager to help the progress of the school in every way. Mr. Mason handed the watch to Mrs. Ellis, her husband being absent owing to the ill-health on account of which he has retired. The gift was acknowledged by his son, who joined Mr. Mason in welcoming Mr. W. W. Edgeiley, the nelv headmaster, who was for five years headmaster of the Huntly School. Mr. Hoe traced tho history of the New Lynn School from its founding in 188 a. The present site had been acquired in 1913 and extra classrooms had been added in 1919 and 1924. The school had grown very rapidly and now had a roll of 750.
