INFANT'S BODY ON TRAIN.
LUGGAGE OFFICE DISCOVERY.
Investigation of a parcel found in the Main Trunk express after its arrival in Auckland yesterday morning disclosed the dead body of a newly-born male infant- Death had apparently occurred several days ago, tho infant then being at the most only a few hours old. The parcel, to outward appearances a common cardboard box, was found under a seat in a second-class carriage by tho porter engaged in inspecting the train for left luggage. Tho box was handed to an official of the left luggage department, who became suspicious and summoned the officer in .charge. The police were called and within tho box was found the body wrapped in brown paper and waterproof cloth. Up to last night nothing was reported to indicate that the parcel had been noticed during the trip from Wellington and it will be difficult to establish whether it was placed in the carriago at Wellington or at some intermediate station.
