DIOMEDE TO LEAVE SOON.
REFITTING OF THE CRUISER. CHANGES IN THE PERSONNEL. H.M.S. Diomede left Auckland .it. five o'clock last evening for Wellington, where final leave will be granted all ranks prior to the cruiser's departure for England to refit. Sho will return to Auckland early in May and will go into dry-dock for four days for cleaning, leaving for England on May 19. The Diomede will take to England a number of New Zealand ratings from the Dunedin and Iho Philomel, who arc due to undergo torpedo and gunnery courses at Home, and tho complement also include nil tho Imperial ratings whoso term of service on the New Zealand station is due to expire shortly. The route to be taken by tho Diomede will bo via Tahiti, the Marquesas, Panama and Kingston, Jamaica. Duo at Portsmouth on July 16, the Diomede will undergo refitting, which is expected to occupy six or eight weeks. Extensive changes in personnel will include all the officers with the exception of Captain L. V. Wells, D.5.0., A.D.C., Surgeon-Commander A. H. .Toy, M.8., and the captain's secretary, PaymasterLieutenant E. F. B. George. About 250 Imperial ratings will bo replaced, and New Zealand ratings who have been undergoing instructional courses at Homci will be brought back.
It is expected the Diomede will arrive back in New Zealand toward tho end of tho year. ■
