REPAIRING ST. PAUL'S.

CRYPT PIERS NOW SAFE.

CONCRETE REPLACES DUST*

[FROM OUB OWN COBBESTONDENT. ] LONDON. Jan. 10. It is reported that St. Paxil's Cathedral is; now out of danger. The work of repairing was started immediately the warning was issued that the cathedral was 'a "dangerous structure" and so efficiently and rapidly has it been carried out that much more has been accomplished in the time than was expected. There is still, however, a good deal more to be done before the repairs are complete. The most important part of the work of restoration was the strengthening of the crypt. This is now finished. The pillars, once thought to be solid stone, were »found to be mere shells—and these cracked—filled with dust. The dust has been cleared away and the pillars filled with concrete. The bases of the pillars, which were embedded in the floor of the crypt, have been strengthened with steel vods and cement. The result is that the eight main pillars which support the dome are n<?gr practically solid blocks of reinforced concrete. Now that tho crypt work is complete, workmen are tackling the piers which rise from the main floor.
