TRAMS AND BUSES.
Sir, — There are large areas for which the trams cannot hope to cater without enormouß expenditure, and this is where the buses have their place in the plan of transport. Take HGbson Bay district. Here is a large district served in a most inconvenient way, $ hotch-potch of Victoria Avenue trams and a wretched bus service from Sea View Road,.with residents laboriously climbing the hills from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the elderly people in despair. Hobson Bay, as a purely residential locality, includes that part of Remuera nearest to .the city. Yet this, valuable spot, with its magnificent harbour views, has been isolated since the earliest times for want, of a good passenger transport service. Given a bus service similar to that rendered by the lite Royal Bus Company, I venture to predict a rapid increase of rates from this , lovely residential district. 'ln a few years it would be filled with houses of the better sort, to the benefit of the city treasury and an ornament to Auckland; Hobson Bat. •
