F. and Dr. Platts-Mills, at Karori, Wellington. ■■ ■ • ' • v Mrs. Jordan and Miss Barbara Clark, of TaUranga, sail to-da,y by the Ulimaroa on a visit to Sydney. Mrs. J. S. Barton and Miss Phyllis Barton have returned to Christchurch, after spending a few weeks in Auckland and Rotorua. Miss Wilde-Brown returned last week from an extended visit abroad and has taken up her residence in Tirohanga Avenue, Remuera. Mrs. / R. J. Tillyard leaves to-day, with Dr. Tillyard, for Sydney, and will return in about two months' time for a short visit. Her family will then accompany her to their new home in Australia. Mrs. W. N. Maw, of Jubbulpore, India, has been spending several months in Auckland. Part of the time was spent with her uncle, the Hon. George Townshend, at Takapuna, and she was also the guest of Mrs. McGarry, Gillies Avenue, Epsom. Among the guests staying at the Grand Hotel are:—Mrs. A. W. Anderson, of Sydney; Mrs. C. Agar, Christchurch; Mrs. Nicholls, Chicago; Mrs. Kennedy and Miss M. Kennedy, Wanganui; Miss lies, Miss Matheson and the Misses Darby, Christchurch. Mrs. R. J. Tillyard, of Nelson, will sail by the Ulimaroa to-day for Sydney in company with her husband, who has been appointed Chief Commonwealth. Entomblo-. gist. Mrs. Tillyard will return to Nelson in April, but expects to take up her residence in Canberra about October. The young professionals at the Royal College of Music are doing their best to further music by giving free. music lessons to children in the London elementary schools. The lessons are given by scholars at the college who are preparing to become teachers and who therefore welcome opportunities of practising their craft. Piano playing, violin playing, class singing and "musical appreciation" are among the subjects and the lessons are supervised by two college professors, who also comment upon the work of the student teachers. Music at some of the London County Council schools is sufficiently advanced to allow of small choirs being entered for such a competition as the North London Musical Festival, which attracted 3600 entries. The piece rhoson for the children's choir competition was Schubert's. "To. Music." ' :
