NORTH SHORE TRANSPORT.

SERVICE BY MOTOR-BUSES. ENLARGEMENT OF THE FLEET. The transport service between Devonport and Takapuna formed the subject of a report made by a sub-committee to the Takapuna Borough Council last evening The committee had consulted Mr. W. H. Taylor, manager of the North Shore Transport Company, Ltd., who said his company had in commission 21 butes, licensed to carry 666 passengers. Four other buses would shortly be put into service. To meet the requirements of the summer traffic the company had an additional bus now building and six on order from England for delivery in November. With these additions, the fleet would comprise 32 buses, licensed to carry 1032 passengers. The seating capacity was equal to that of 15 tramcars. Mr. Taylor had expressed confidence that this fleet would prove sufficient to cope with the summer traffic. The borough traffic inspector reported that complaints of overcrowding of buses would probably cease with the provision of the four new buses. Commendable steps were being taken to maintain a time-table, clocks having been installed at several points on the routes, and the company was seeking permission from the Power Board to paint signs on telegraph poles at bus stops. The company drew the council's attention to the dangerous state of the tramrails at several street intersections. The rails .were considerably higher than the street formation and in some instances the edges of the rails were broken, constituting a grave danger to motor traffic. The council decided to ask the Tramways Company to rectify the matter immediately.
