CONSPIRING TO DEFEAT. " OFFER TO SQUARE JURY." A builder named Thomas McGauhay, aged 30 years, was sentenced by Judge Foster in Melbourne lately, to imprisonment for 12 months on a charge of having unjfiwfully incited Daniel McMichael to conspire to defeat the ends of justice. McGauhay had been found guilty, the jury adding a. recommendation to mercy. v Evidence was given that McGauhay told McMichael that he could " square the jury " for a consideration. Judgo Foster said that the offence of which McGauhay had been found guilty was very serious. Possibly, no more serious offence, other than a capital offence, could be committed. /
