BEAM WIRELESS SERVICES. INDIAN CONTRACT EXCEEDED. (British Official Wireless.) A. nnd N.Z. RUGBY, Sept. 6. The beam wireless services between England and India, Canada, Australia and South Africa are all operated from the Central Telegraph Office in London, where messages are sent on a land line to the actual beam transmitter, which is situated in different parts of the country. Tests have shown in regard to the Indian service that the beam stations can without difficulty exceed the capacity required in the contract, which stipulates for a speed of 100 words a minute both ways for 12 hours out of the 24. Actually the service has been worked consistently at 150 words a minute both ways for 18 hours out of the 24. The speed of the service is really governed at present by that of the land-line instruments in the central offices. The service was opened this morning with an exchange of congratulatory greetings.
