LUCKY SHOT MINE. 0 GOLD-BEARING LEADER. MORE PICKED STONE TO HAND. [jp TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. | THAMES, Wednesday. A report ol the sudden finding of a rich gold bearing leader at Thames today in the Lucky Shot mine and of con sequent local excitement, rathei exag gerated the significance of what were merely developments of interest to the. shareholders of this company Three weeks ago driving was commenced on •small leader IBin wide and running in a north-easterly direction from the main reef, which has been described in the weekly reports of the progress of the mine as the "footwall dropper." This leader has been followed for about 40ft and has shown dabs and colours of gold freely. It is now 18in wide. Yesterday morning 101b- of picked stone was secured and a further 15115. of picked stone came to hand to-day, This afternoon a band of what could be classed as specimen stone about 2in. wide and Isin. long is showing on the hangingwall of the leader A further 2Jft of quartz is also showing strong dabs and colours of gold Appearances indicate a further widening of the leader. Additional interest is afforded by a deviation in the course of the main reef toward the dropper and it is the pro bability of the two jiin<;tioning in another 30ft of driving that is causing a quickening of public interest in the working of the mine. About three weeks ago a crushing of 14 tons of quartz was carried out at the Thames School of Mines for a return of £54. More than £9OOO has been spent m developing the mine since it was opened in 1924. Mr. A. Christe, who has superintended the mine since it was opened, said the hopes of the com. pany at the moment are based on the junctioning of the footwall dropper and the main reef, which on present indications should occur within a month.
