SENSATIONAL CHASE.

FIVE REVOLVER SHOTS.

POLICE OVERHAUL THE THIEF,

After six shots had been fired during an exciting chase early on the morning of Sunday, August 21, Constables Peadori and Wilks, of Balmain, recovered a motorcar which had been taken from Pitt Street, opposite the Sydney railway station, about 8.30 o'clock on Saturday evening.

About 3.30 o'clock on Sunday morning, Constable /Peadon saw a car going at a very fast speed toward Rozelle Junction. It was not showing any lights He endeavoured to stop it, but the driver went on. As it sped past him, he noticed that it .tallied with the description of the car which had been taken from Pitt Street. He at once telephoned to Balmain station, and Constable Wilks joined him with a P.D. car, in which "thev set out on the chase. In Gladesville the constables saw a car coming toward them, it sped past, but they overhauled it at Drunmioyne. The driver took no notice of Constable Peadon's repeated commands to stop, and whenever the police car drew close the driver of the other car swerved to prevent the police from drawing abreast While the cars were travelling at 50 miles an hour Constable Peadon drew his revolver and fared five shots, shattering the rear light of the car in front, but ttie only effect was to cause the driver to raise his speed to 58 miles an hour

The police car later drew alongside, and Constable Peadon, after again commanding the driver to stop, fired once more. The bullet struck the front door beside the driver of the living car, and he pulled up and ran off on foot as fast as he could. After a short chase the police officers overhauled him, and arrested him on charges of stealing the car, and of xaalieiously damaging it.
