ELECTRICITY CHARGES.

Sir, —"Humour," in his letter to you of 6th inst., regarding the new income tax, cannot miss the Government's great joke, because the Finance Minister says he is increasing the tax to enable him to reduce it in future. As a competing joker, the Waitemata Electric-Power Board is to be recommended. In the last line' of a circular which the board has just sent out to consumers of current, it "is confidently anticipated that' the proposed alterations will result in a very considerable saving to consumers." The humour of the statement is most apparent to the consumers of smaller quantities of current, the occupiers of modest homes, who will pay under the new scheme more than 50 per cent, increase upon their present charges. This, I think, beats the Hon. Mr. Stewart, and incidentally hits hard those who are least able to bear it. More Humour.
