THE INCOME TAX PROPOSALS.

Sir, —I have read with interest the many letters regarding the new income tax proposals and must add my protest. It is outrageous to increase taxation—especially on the smaller incomes, when it takes us all our time to pay our way. Why not lift the exemption to £SOO and load the fortunate gentlemen with the large incomes ? Or why not fix a stiff bachelor and spinster tax ? Bachelors are living on the fat of the land "with m6ney to burn" —dodging their responsibilities v to the State —while in a great many cases women are holding men's jobs at big pay—a great deal of which they fritter away in "silks and satins." Tax 'em both and tax 'em hard, and leave the poor worker with a limited income and heavy family responsibilities alone. I did give the Reform Party credit for justice, but we are not getting it. B. Sting.
