DICKENS FELLOWSHIP.

"THE OLD CURIOSITY SHOP." The evergreen story of "The Old Curiosity Shop" was the subject chosen for the fortnightly meeting of the Auckland branch of the Dickens Fellowship last evening. The president, Rev. A. B. ChappeD, who presided at the opening of the gathering, gave an introductory sketch in which he dealt with the origin and publication of the book, as well as the application of its title and its principal literary features, the relationship of the work to "Master Humphreyis Clock" being also explained. Mrs. D'Authreau gave an admirable character sketch of "the grandfather," and Mrs. Kenneth Gordon presented an entertaining presen tation of the story of Dick Swiveller and the game of cards with the marchioness. The other readings were:—"Miss MonHathers and Little Nell," Mr. W. M. Lusty; "Rousing the Single Gentleman," Mr. J. W. Kealy, "Quilp as Eavesdropper," Mr. W. j. Scott. Mr. F. S. T. Little, vice-president, occupied the chair during the latter part of the meeting.
