THAMES HARBOUR BOARD.

REPORT ON DREDGING WORK. TRIBUTE TO LATE MEMBER. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] THAMES. Wednesday. The Thames Harbour Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. J. W. Danby, presiding. The Marine Department intimated that the Fiako River automatic beacon light was within the limits of the Thames Harbour and requested the board to maintain the light at an approximate cost of £lO per annum, the department to bear the cost of erection. The chairman explained that the only revenue derived from the Piako River was £5 per annum for port dues. The secretary, Mr. J. Fox, estimated the cost of maintenance at between £l7 and £2O per annum. It was resolved to defer consideration of the request for a month. The engineer, Mr. E. F. Adams, reported that the dredge had lifted 0820 cubic yards of spoil between July and August 1 at a cost of 9£d a yard. The progress of the dredging work at the wharf had been impeded by the presence of old pile stumps, of which 49 had already been removed. In connection with reclamation works a total of 34,380 cubic yards had been added to an area of 12 acres bounded on the seaward side by the northern wall of the harbour. The chairman, in the course of a eulogy of the service to the board of the late Mr. A. Wagstaff, spoke of the manner in which Mr. Wagstaff had commanded the respect, friendship and confidence of members of the board. It was with a sense of personal loss that the chairman moved that the board should place on record its annreciation of the great nublic service rendered by Mr. Wagstaff and convey its deep sympathy to his relatives.
