NEW GERMAN CRUISER.
THIRD BUILT SINCE WAR. VESSEL OF 6000 TONS. (Received August 18, 5.5 p.m.) A. :iud N.Z. BERLIN. Aug. 17. The third cruiser that has been built since the war for tho German Navy will be launched at Kiel on August 20. The vessel is a sister-ship to the Karlsruhe, of 6000 tons.
i'he cruiser Karlsruhe, which was authorised under the programme for 1925, was the second of the new cruisers, the first being the new Emden. The displacement was 6000 Inns; length, draught, 17jft. ; eight 5 9 guns and lighter armament The designed horsepower was 45,000, to give a speed of 29 knots The Emden was designed for foreign service. Owing to the inter-Allied restrictions on the production of armaments, she could not mount as heavy guns as she will ultimately cany.
