ACCIDENT TO ENGINE.
COWCATCHER SCRAPES LINE. WHANGAREI EXPRESS DELAYED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WHANGAREI. Thursday. As the North-bound express was entering Otonga flag station the centre pin of the engine bridge, which supports its compensating beams, broke, causing the engine bed to drop and the cowcatcher to scrape the permanent way. This occasioned a delay of one and three-quarter hours. The engine was exchanged at Whakapara for another from the slow train which" follows the express.
