HORSE-STEALING CHARGE.

HALF-CASTE PLEADS GUILTY. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HUNTLY, Thursday. A charge of stealing a bay mare, the property of Tui Heta. was preferred against Tony Kaui, a half-cast negio, aged 18 years, in the Huntly Magistrate's Court to-day. It was stated that Kaui. after spending the night at Rangiriri with Heta, leftearl v in the morning and took with him the'mare and rode 'it to Ngaruawahia, where he sold it to a farmer for 30s. Accused said he had taken the mare because Heta oned him £5 for wages, and that later he had informed him of the sale of the mare. Heta said accused had informed him that the mare was in Ngaruawahia, but had a sore foot and that he had promised to bring it back the next day. Accused subsequently pleaded guilty and was committed to 'the Supreme Court for sentence.
