GREY STREET.
Sir, —As one who lived in Grey Street in the 'seventies —when it was inhabited by some of the most prominent and esteemed business people of Auckland, all dead and gone, and to whom —with all .its vagaries—it > still endeared by tender memories, might I ask would it not be more to the purpose if the will and energy of the recent letter-writers had been diverted from the bitter attack upon the Commissioner of Police to pray that the City Council 'would cleanse the street of all undesirables and hovels and make it worthy of bearing the name of that honoured statesman —Sir George Grey ? How was Grey Street allowed to be cut up into little by-ways and alleyways and thus become so dilapidated? I trust the name of this beautiful street will not be changed. E. Nicol.
