OBITUARY.
MR. ARTHUR I. BENTLEY. The death occurred at the Auckland Hospital ori Tuesday of Mr. "Arthur L Bentley, land agent, of Bucklands Beach. Not long ago Mr. Bentley injured the" tip of one. of his fingers while working upon his motor-car. and, in spite of medical attention, the finger had to be amputated. On Sunday tetanus set in and the patient was removed to the hospital. Mr. Bentley, who was aged 37, leaves' a- wife and one son. MR. JOHN S. GEDDIS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA, Wednesday. The death occurred at his home in Rotorua to-day of Mr. John Stewart Geddis, brother of the late Hon. William Geddis, M.L.C., at the age of 64 years. Mr. Geddis was employed on the staff of the Rotorua Chronicle for some years, and before that was connected with the Observer, Auckland. >
MR. JAMES BLRTL.ES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 • - PAPAROA, Wednesday. The death occurred at Huarau last night of Mr. James Birtles, aged 79 years. A well-known resident of the district for 52 years, Mr. Birtles came to New Zealand in 1867, and lived at Batley. _ For some time he was in the atnploy of the late Mr. Joseph Masefield. Returning to England Mr. Birtles married in 1872, and subsequently came again to New Zealand, and engaged in storekeeping at Batley and farming. Afterwards he removed to Huarau and had lived there permanently ever since. He played for the old Paparoa cricket team and was a strong supporter of the Paparoa Methodist Church. He is survived by his widow, one son, Mr. E. t T. Birtles, of Paparoa, and two daughters, Mrs. W. McCarroll, Te Awamntu. and' Miss E. Birtles, Huarau.
