DAY OF AVERAGE BUSINESS

Average business was clone on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. In Government securities almost every class was sought. War Loans, 1936, 5g per cent., changed hands at £lOl 7s 6d, a decline of 2s 6d compared with last week's sale rate. Inscribed stocks, 1938, per cent., had sale at £96 15s, compared with £96 17s 6d last week. In debentures New Zealand Breweries were done at 23s 6d at the second and third calls, a decline of twopence on the price paid at the end of last week.

In banks there was fair inquiry, but no business passed. In insurance South Biitish changed hands at 56s 6d, compared with 57s last week. In coals Renowns, contributing issue, firmed, a sale being made at 6s 6d, an advance of sixpence on the rate recently current. In gas Aucklands, contributing issue, had sale at the current price of 17s 6d. In shipping there was a sale of P. and 0. deferred stock at £285. Hie last sale was made at £250 last October. In miscellaneous there _ was inquiry for Colonial Sugars at £52, but sellers did not respond. The last sale took place three weeks ago, the price paid being £sl ss. In mining Alburnias were done at 3s 9d, a decline of one penny on last week s sale rate. Kawaraus changed hands at the current price of Is Id. Holders of Waihis reduced their quotations during the day from 20s to 19s lOd, late buyers 19s 7d.
