TEXT OF PEACE TREATY.

ALTERATION OF ARTICLE. GERMAN AIMS AT GENEVA. (Received June 9, 7.26 p.m.) A. and N.Z. GENEVA, June 9. At the International Labour Conference at Geneva the German Government has been endeavouring to upset an article in the Treaty of Peace, which provides that there shall be only English and French texts of the conventions. Germany has proposed that the Labour Office at Geneva should prepare authoritative translations in any required language. There has been much opposition to this proposal, because, apart from the introduction of a new language, there is obvious danger in trying to reconcile .texts in various languages with the' English and French texts. This would create the risk ,of wrong interpretation, and as a consequence there would be varying methods of carrying into effect the provisions of the conventions. When a vote was taken there were 58 votes in favour of the German proposal and 42 against it. ■ ', ; The Australian workers' delegate voted in favour of the German proposal.
