HARBOUR AT THAMES.

SATISFACTORY DREDGING. MANY DIFFICULTIES OVERCOME. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES, Wednesday. The Thames Harbour Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. J. W. Danby, presiding. The engineer, Mr. E. F. Adams, said 5047 cubic yards had been dredged during the month, at a cost of a cubic yard. The steamer berthage had been cleared and the spoil dredged and deposited in the area under reclamation. Drudging methods were being adapted to the peculiar local conditions and material, with improving results. A strip of foreshoro 12ft. to 15ft. wido which was unsuitable for dredging would bo dealt with by U sluicing outfit, now nearly ready for use. The chairman said the dredging results of tho past fortnight had been encouraging in tho extreme. The engineer had estimated tho cost at lOd a yard, but it was now down to 9|d. 1 Ho was assured that the dredge was capable of'.fitill better results", and ho would not be surprised to hear that tho cost would ultimately bo reduced to 6d a yard, There had been many difficulties, but the dredge was now working satisfactorily. , Mr. W. Brown, Auckland, applied for permission to remove shell, metal and sand from the foreshore. The chairman said he had informed the applicant that permission to cart quantities of meta! could not bo given until the matter had been thoroughly investigated. He moved that the local committee arid engineer be deputed to deal -with the" request.—The motion was carried.
