CITY ROADMAKING.

Sir,—Several months ago the city's portion of Watling Street was properly formed and laid down with an excellent surface. To-day the whole surface is irreparably ruined. This is the result of wanton neglect through not applying a coating of top-dressing, tar and shingle. I consider such methods as the above would be unworthy of a backblocks road board. Another matter I would draw attention to is the excessive cqst of the work. No wonder ratepayers are groaning under a heavy burden of rates. I think we residents of the Epsom end of tho city deserve all we get, and I wonder why we have no representative on the council. Have we no ratepayers among us who could fill the bill ? Onslow Road.
