LEADING CHAINS FOR DOGS.
j Sir,.- — I am sorry to find from "Clans;j man's" lettor that anybody could be w ungenerous as to malign'the Scottish race. The English love the Scottish peooie. I hare read of the Scottish, the Iri--h, and the Welsh. 'I hey each pouets fine qtuli' tics, but I have heard nothing of the English. I believe there were wm« hvirig once, such a.s Shaknipeare, Drake, Nelson, and others of that kind. sfore recently there wag Caption Scott and party, Captain Gates, oi imperixhabl# memory. Mr Baldwin is typically English. But we hear little of the English. They are bad advertisers AU the intelligent world know) that England is * wonderful arid beautiful country, and » attractive, that it is overcrowded w.th people from /ill over the world. Many would rather starve tfaefft, than live any* where else—and London itself, now ap* proachins 8,(XX),000 of population, ts » world in itself. The " i •»:'*.t Little Wand" is certainly a great world power. As for Canadian and American htisir.e** people prefermg arm special nationality that is nonsense. The hysinev*. man <>» to-day requires the right record and th« knowledge—in other words. h«* i» IwMinit for "valtse." I think "Clansman should try to control hi* eshyberance, be* cause the Irish and the W elm adopt the sarn« attitude which would add itill farther to the 'gaiety of readers.
