CAR IMPALED ON POST.
SOMERSAULT DOWN BANK, •/ .'V M V OCCUPANTS ESCAPE LIGHTLY. [BY TETjEGRAPH.—OWN COSnCSFON'IiBKT.j CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. A motor-car fell 30ft, over a bank and impaled itself on a post neitr Duvsmchello Bay yesterday. None of the occupants was seriously injured. The driver, Mr. R. BalSantyne, received a cut on tho back of tho head. Tho other occupants of the en? were Mrs. Bailaufyno, her baby, aged six months, who fell on tho exhaust pipe and was burned. Jack Ballantyne, aged nine, and Molly Pratt, aged 14 years. Tho vehicle was proceeding up a hill on tho way to Akaroa, and Mr. Bsllantyne was driving very slowly. In order to obtain a good view of tho harbour he crossed over tho road on to the right side and tho bank gave way. The occupants of the car were thrown out and they rolled clear as the vehicle turned a domersavilt down the bank. The car then toppled on to a post, which through tho floor boards and prevented it from falling any further. The vehicle was not greatly damaged.
